Questions....

As we get closer to Move-In, I know that you may have unanswered questions...

and with so many new families in our show I thought I would send out a reminder about committee responsibilities.

If you thought, maybe, you were able to say "whew, the show is starting and my parent job will slow down", you may have to think again! During the show run many of you will be asked to work most, even perhaps all, the shows. This is true of refreshments, green room, souvenirs, box office, house, costumes, sets, make up, tech, backstage and publicity/VIP Table. There may be others that just are not coming to mind this morning! It is so important you take your commitment during the show very seriously. It is a large amount of work, but spread over all our families it is manageable. If some parents do not fulfill their responsibilities, the load becomes too great for remaining families to take on.

If you have just discovered how much you need to work during shows and find it conflicts with your work schedule or other home responsibilities, please talk to your committee chair. If you work souvenirs, refreshments, house, box, (none of which work directly with the kids) you need to find a family or friend that is willing to take your shift. It is impossible for the other parents on your committee to assume the work/shift you were scheduled to do.

If you are a new family, let us help you walk through this process. Once you've been through a show you will have a much clearer picture of what how this whole thing works. Parent involvement in CYT is one of the things that separates us from other theater groups.

I also must let you know that there are consequences for not fulfilling parent responsibilities. For instance, if a parent of a cast member does not attend one of the three mandatory parent meetings, their child will not be able to audition for the show the next time they are enrolled in classes. The same consequence can be applied if a parent does not fulfill their committee responsibilities.

We try very hard to communicate all this through our first class day meeting with parents, on our forms and in our show parent meetings. We also know that there is so much to take in that details can be missed! Let us work with you to make this a good experience for your family and a successful one for the run of our show.

I am so glad each of you are part of this show and I appreciate the commitment you have made and the work you have done. I hope you have already been able to see the impact of being involved in CYT in the life of your child. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.
